To prevent the appearance of reptiles in summer cottages, it is necessary to maintain order, clean up garbage and foliage, mow tall grass, trim bushes, and timely remove cut and dead trees.
Snakes are an important link in food chains. For example, vipers eat rodents and are themselves prey for rare birds such as white and black storks, snake eagles, and the greater spotted eagle. These reptiles live in mixed fields, hunting on land and in still waters. Near human habitats, they can crawl into piles of garbage, hide in tall grass, and in pits.
Grass snakes inhabit areas near water bodies, where they also hunt. Generally, they are not aggressive and, upon encountering humans, try to crawl away. However, as experts say, it is better to avoid these reptiles and not provoke them.
When heading into the forest and areas with tall grass, it is necessary to wear boots and deliberately move noisily so that the reptiles, hearing footsteps, will crawl away. If a bite cannot be avoided, it is essential to seek medical attention immediately.
