Engineer Built a Home Power Station from Discarded Vapes

British engineer Chris Doyle demonstrated that disposable vapes can serve as a hidden source of energy.

He created a battery capable of powering his entire house for eight hours using lithium-ion cells from 500 discarded devices. According to him, the idea came after he noticed that people throw away vapes that still contain fully rechargeable batteries.

To create a system with a capacity of 2.5 kWh, the enthusiast manually extracted cells from several thousand devices provided by a local shop. He connected the batteries in a special way: groups connected in parallel were then combined in series, and for safety, he installed fuses between each cell. He thoroughly documented the assembly process and the subsequent successful test, during which all electrical appliances in the house were operational, in a video.

The experiment vividly highlights the problem of wasteful handling of valuable materials.
