We know the benefits of sauerkraut and what is special about avocados. But what do regular tomatoes provide?
According to nutritionist Ekaterina Anchikova, tomatoes deserve a special place in children's diets. They help students concentrate better, cope with stress more easily, and support their immune system.
How Many Tomatoes Should a Student Eat
The doctor noted that there are no strict norms regulating tomato consumption, but 1–2 medium fruits per day or a serving of salad based on them is the optimal amount for a growing body. According to healthy eating principles, 300–400 g of vegetables per day is necessary for both adults and students, and part of this portion should consist of tomatoes.
What Tomatoes to Offer Children
Both fresh and cooked tomatoes have their place in the diet. They provide different degrees of benefits:
fresh tomatoes provide the maximum amount of vitamin C and fiber;
cooked (stewed or baked) tomatoes are rich in lycopene — an antioxidant that is absorbed several times better after heat treatment.
Ideally, differently prepared tomatoes should be combined to maintain overall dietary variety. For example, in the morning, tomatoes can be added to an omelet, at lunch — to a salad, and in the evening — to a soup or sauce for the main dish.
By the way, salads with tomatoes and vegetables should not be dressed with mayonnaise and sour cream, but, if possible, with cold-pressed olive, sunflower, or flaxseed oil, as they help absorb fat-soluble vitamins A, E, and K.
