Green and black tea, coffee, and cocoa can rightfully be considered the best warming drinks, said endocrinologist M. Belousova.
According to the specialist, caffeine promotes heat production, but it should not be consumed in large quantities. Adults are recommended to drink no more than four cups of tea or coffee a day. Those suffering from heart diseases or sleep disorders are advised by doctors to limit their intake of caffeinated beverages, especially strong ones.
Belousova noted that non-alcoholic mulled wine and cocoa also warm you up well due to their content of spices and flavanols. However, due to the high concentration of sugar, they should not be consumed daily.
Additionally, the doctor recommended adding ginger to compote or other drinks. It contains shogaol and gingerol — substances with a pronounced warming effect. At the same time, ginger drinks are contraindicated for people with gastritis, ulcers, a tendency to bleed, as well as for pregnant and breastfeeding women, the doctor clarified.
She also warned that excessively hot drinks should not be consumed: too high a temperature can increase the risk of malignant tumors. The optimal temperature of the liquid should not exceed 60 degrees, the specialist concluded.
