The earlier a love for gardening develops, the lower the risks of severe chronic diseases.
Specialists from the University of Alberta (Canada) have established that introducing gardening at an early age strengthens the body and reduces the risk of cancer in the future. This is reported in the journal Public Health.
Green Prevention
According to the authors of the study, gardening fosters habits that protect against a whole range of chronic diseases. This applies to all aspects of a healthy life, including nutrition and physical activity.
The results of an analysis of 48 studies showed that children's participation in growing vegetables and fruits helps improve their knowledge about nutrition and increases their level of activity.
Why It’s Important to Start Gardening as Early as Possible — Even from Childhood
Scientists noted that children involved in plant care tend to eat more vegetables, spend more time outdoors, and spend less time on gadgets. All of this helps strengthen the immune system and reduces inflammatory processes, thereby decreasing the risk of chronic diseases in the future.
Moreover, gardening activities in kindergartens and schools strengthen social connections and teach care for nature.
Adults Can Benefit Too
Previously, similar conclusions were shared by specialists from the American Society of Clinical Oncology. They stated that physical activity is important for adults, both healthy and ill.
"Even simple weeding and watering all the flowers in the garden can have a beneficial effect on the body and increase the chances of recovery," wrote experts from Gastronom.ru.
