The World«s Most Stinky Flower Stolen from a Botanical Garden in Germany

The world's most stinky flower has been stolen from the botanical garden in Dortmund, Germany, reports Spiegel.

Unknown individuals dug up and stole the tuber of the rare titan arum (Amorphophallus titanum), which weighs approximately 20–30 kg. The plant was named "David."

The amorphophallus blooms for only a few days once every few years, emitting a strong smell of decay to attract pollinating insects. According to a staff member of the "Rombergpark" botanical garden, the residents of the city were eagerly awaiting the new bloom — the largest inflorescence in the world of flora invariably attracts many visitors who wish to see it for themselves.

Garden workers admitted that the theft of the amorphophallus was a serious shock for them. They expressed hope that the thieves would repent and return "David." City authorities have contacted the police.
