The Doctor Explained Why Pears Are Healthier Than Apples

Pears are available year-round, not just in the fall, but for some reason, most people prefer apples.

Therapist Ivan Yeremenko explained why pears should be included in the diet.

Benefits of Pears

The main wealth of pears is fiber. Dietary fibers, which are divided into soluble and insoluble, improve digestion and provide a long-lasting feeling of fullness. Additionally, pears contain folic acid, which is necessary for blood formation, and magnesium, which supports the functioning of the heart and nervous system.

One medium-sized pear contains only about 50–60 kcal. It also has a relatively low glycemic index — from 30 to 40. The fruits can be combined with foods rich in protein and healthy fats, such as yogurt, low-fat cottage cheese, or nuts.

Why Pears Are Better Than Apples

In terms of composition, pears and apples are almost indistinguishable — seasonal fruits contain vitamins, magnesium, a small amount of iron, and two types of fiber.

However, as the specialist noted, the main difference lies in the acidity of the fruits.

"Unlike apples, they are less acidic and are better tolerated by children with sensitive stomachs," added the therapist.

How Many Pears Can You Eat in a Day

Pears should be included in the diet in moderation. In cases of gastrointestinal issues, excess weight, and the risk of obesity or diagnosed diabetes, the fruit intake should be determined by a specialist. For healthy individuals, a safe norm is considered to be 1–2 fruits per day.
