Healthy Foods with a Catch: Which Ones Can Cause Unpleasant Consequences?

Each of us has our own idea of healthy and unhealthy food. A mother is unlikely to advise her child to eat hamburgers and pizza more often, while having oatmeal for breakfast and adding honey to tea when sick is quite normal.

However, it’s not that simple: even the healthiest foods can sometimes be harmful.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal contains many beneficial substances such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, zinc, and iron. Unfortunately, it not only supplies these to the body but also removes them — and not just its own, but also those already accumulated.

This is due to phytic acid, which is present in oatmeal of any processing. Therefore, nutritionists recommend consuming it no more than three times a week. Doctors also warn that instant oatmeal from packets can contribute to weight gain, unlike the kind that is cooked for some time.

Honey

Honey, which is considered a very healthy product, actually has quite a few side effects for health.

Firstly, it can seriously damage teeth: like any sweet product, it can lead to cavities or gum disease. Honey can also cause severe allergic reactions or exacerbate symptoms of hay fever. The high fructose content in honey poses a danger for people with fatty liver disease, excess weight, and hypertension. Additionally, honey can irritate the stomach lining, so it is especially not recommended during exacerbations of gastrointestinal diseases.

Ginger

Honey with ginger is a true cold-fighting artillery. Ginger itself helps with nausea and menstrual pain. However, the same substances that make it beneficial and spicy can severely irritate the mucous membranes, so an excess of ginger in the diet causes itching and a scratchy throat.

For this reason, it should not be consumed in cases of ulcers or gastritis. Ginger can exacerbate liver and gallbladder diseases, and it is contraindicated in cases of high blood pressure and heart problems.

In all cases, the most important advice is moderation.
