A useful invention for culinary enthusiasts who face the problem of falling apart rolls and kebabs.
A group of students from Johns Hopkins University has created what may be the world’s first edible adhesive tape, which will help keep burritos and shawarmas intact.
This edible tape is called “Tastee Tape.” It consists of a “food-grade fibrous matrix and organic adhesive,” which ensures reliable holding of ingredients in burritos both during preparation and while eating.
Tastee Tape can be used for various products, including flatbreads, tacos, and gyros.
Composition of the Adhesive Tape
Currently, the students have filed a patent application and cannot disclose the full composition of their development. However, they assure that “all ingredients are safe for consumption, and the tape consists of food components and common food and dietary additives.”
The product is presented in the form of pre-cut strips five centimeters long, which are attached to sheets of wax paper. To make the tape sticky, it is enough to moisten it with water.
The edible adhesive can be used not only for rolls and burritos but also for gluing cakes or correcting culinary mistakes.
