What foods should be included in the diet for atherosclerosis?

Atherosclerosis is a chronic disease affecting the arterial system. It develops as a result of lipid metabolism disorders and is accompanied by the deposition of cholesterol on the walls of blood vessels. Over time, the vessels lose their elasticity, and the resulting plaques can completely block the lumen, hindering blood flow.

The main strategy for combating atherosclerosis is controlling cholesterol levels, which involves quitting smoking, increasing physical activity, and paying close attention to one's diet. Doctors recommend including foods with anti-atherogenic properties in the menu. These foods have a chemical composition that prevents cholesterol from adhering to the walls of blood vessels and the formation of plaques.

The following are beneficial in the fight against atherosclerosis:

sea fish;
olive oil;
legumes: beans, peas, lentils, chickpeas;
fermented dairy products;
vegetables;
berries;
spices.

With elevated cholesterol levels, it is recommended to exclude the following products:

processed meats;
fatty meats;
shrimp;
butter;
pork fat;
ghee;
hard cheeses;
products containing coconut or palm oil.

Additionally, it is advisable to limit the consumption of refined sugar, white bread, white flour, white rice, and sweet products, including carbonated drinks.
