Nutrition... threatens life: smoking and alcohol pale in comparison

Researchers warn of serious health consequences caused by the consumption of unhealthy food known as junk food.

Specialists from Deakin University (Australia) conducted an analysis of data from about 10 million people participating in 14 different studies.

The results were alarming: data confirming a significant risk of death associated with the consumption of unhealthy food has been validated. Among the diagnoses leading to fatalities are cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

According to information from the website healthstat.gr, the most common consequences of regular consumption of junk food include breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and prostate cancer. Also on the list are tumors of the central nervous system, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and pancreatic cancer. Researchers found that the risk of death from cardiovascular diseases increases by 50% in people who frequently consume unhealthy food.

Moreover, mental health issues are noted, such as sleep disorders, anxiety disorders, and depression. The likelihood of developing anxiety was 53% higher among those who regularly ate unhealthy food. Following this are respiratory diseases, including asthma, as well as cardiovascular problems arising from hypertension and high cholesterol levels.

The list also includes Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, obesity, hyperglycemia, metabolic syndrome, and type 2 diabetes. The risk of developing type 2 diabetes increased by 12% due to unhealthy eating, researchers note, publishing their findings in the British Medical Journal (BMJ).

Dr. Charlotte Gupta from Central Queensland University in Australia stated: “We know that these products are not healthy, but this analysis highlights how harmful they can be.”

Unhealthy food (junk food), convenience foods, and highly processed products mostly contain chemicals, colorants, sweeteners, and preservatives that extend their shelf life. However, ultimately, this negatively impacts human health.
