Foreign specialists, Doctor of Medical Sciences Frank Hu and dietitian Sandra J. Arevalo, explained that completely refusing sugar is impractical.
Experts in healthy eating have stated that complete refusal of sugar is not beneficial, as reported by the portal Very Well Health. One of the specialists, Harvard University professor Frank Hu, emphasized that there are different types of sugars, and not all of them are harmful.
“Not all sugars are the same. For a healthier diet, it is important to minimize the intake of added sugars, which are typically found in processed foods,” noted Dr. Hu.
The nutrition specialist added that consuming sugars found in natural products is quite acceptable. Moreover, such natural sugars (for example, honey or maple syrup) contain antioxidants and other beneficial substances for health. However, they should be consumed in moderation, as in large doses they can have the same negative effects as regular sugar.
According to Professor Hu, the most beneficial sweets are fruits, which do not cause sharp spikes in blood sugar levels. They are recommended to be consumed specifically as dessert — definitely not on an empty stomach.
Another expert, dietitian Sandra J. Arevalo, also noted that complete refusal of sugar is not beneficial for the body.
“Complete elimination of sugar implies a rejection of carbohydrates, which are necessary for energy and maintaining vitality,” emphasized the specialist.
The dietitian also pointed out that the main problem with sugar consumption is its excessive intake. In moderate amounts, it is completely harmless to the body.
