Long breaks between meals can negatively affect health. The dietitian recommends snacking every three hours.
In Search of the Perfect Figure
Many strive to quickly get rid of excess weight. To achieve this goal, they start exercising, increase their intake of vegetables and fruits, and adhere to various diets. These methods have their pros and cons. However, the greatest dissatisfaction among nutritionists worldwide is caused by a weight loss method known as intermittent fasting.
The essence of this strategy is that any food is allowed, but only during strictly defined hours, while at other times only water can be consumed. Celebrities and their fans often call this method the most effective. Nevertheless, in practice, fasting can lead not only to weight loss but also to health deterioration.
Why this happens is explained by dietitian Oksana Dmitrieva.
Caloric Deficit is Necessary
She emphasizes that a caloric deficit and regular physical activity are important for successful weight loss. Only in this way can one quickly, safely, and comfortably reduce weight.
During intermittent fasting, it is recommended not to eat for 16 hours. This means that no nutrients are entering the body.
- Such a diet will have a very negative impact on health, as there will be an acute deficiency not only of calories but also of glucose in the blood. This is very bad for the body, as glucose is the main nutrient for many cells, especially for brain cells, - says the expert.
Furthermore, the dietitian noted that “hungry” blood, which contains insufficient nutrients, cannot ensure the normal functioning of the brain. Memory loss and decreased cognitive abilities are just minimal negative consequences that may arise from prolonged food deprivation.
