The health benefits of nuts are often mentioned, but it is worth considering that they contain a significant amount of calories. Could excessive consumption lead to weight gain?
Researchers from the University of Toronto in the journal Obesity Reviews claim that there is no need to worry about this — nuts do not contribute to weight gain. The study analyzed 121 scientific studies dedicated to nuts.
The overall sample included more than half a million people; some participants consumed nuts as part of the experiment, while others simply had their health status compared with the amount of nuts in their diet. No connection was found between high nut consumption and obesity; moreover, in some cases, nuts even contributed to a slight weight loss. (By the way, we have already mentioned that walnuts can help control appetite.)
Thus, if you feel that you are gaining weight from nuts, the real reason lies elsewhere.
