Scientists advised obese teenagers to eat cashews

Regular consumption of cashews has a positive effect on the health of obese teenagers, researchers from Brazil have found. The results of their work were published in the journal Nutrition Research.

The study involved 142 schoolchildren from Fortaleza. For three months, the first group consumed 30 g of roasted cashews daily and received dietary recommendations, while the second group followed only the advice without adding nuts to their diet.

By the end of the experiment, participants in the first group showed a significant reduction in waist circumference and oxidative stress levels, while the overall weight of the schoolchildren remained virtually unchanged.

According to the scientists, cashews contain magnesium, unsaturated fats, and antioxidants that reduce the accumulation of visceral fat and protect cells from damage. The researchers believe that including these nuts in the diet of teenagers could be a simple and accessible way to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and metabolic disorders.
