Who would have thought that popular "soda" and soy sauce create one of the most successful combinations for marinating? However, cola and the traditional dressing in Asian cuisine truly complement each other, thanks to their unique chemical properties. This was reported by the culinary publication Tasting Table.
In what proportions to mix the ingredients for the marinade
To achieve a balanced marinade, take ½ cup of soy sauce for a 330 ml can of cola or its equivalent. Add a bit of oil, minced garlic, pepper, and shallots. Marinate the meat for at least 1 hour.
Ideally, choose spices depending on the type of meat:
- For chicken, complement the mixture with ginger, rice vinegar, and sesame oil.
- Beef will be enhanced by brown sugar or molasses.
- The flavor of pork is intensified with Worcestershire sauce, rosemary, thyme, and nutmeg.
Why marinate meat at all
Marinating is not just a way to enhance flavor, but also the simplest way to prevent meat from drying out and to speed up its cooking time.
