Stewed white onions make the most universal side dish for meat, poultry, or fish. It is quick to prepare and, as the recipe shared by EatingWell states, consists of just 3 ingredients.

How to Make a Side Dish from Onions

You will need 1.5 kg of small white onions, a piece of butter to taste (about ⅓ of a stick), salt, and pepper. For aroma and color, Martha Stewart suggests adding a bit of fresh parsley.

The process is as simple as the ingredient list:

Quickly boil the onions in salted water and peel them.
Make a cut at the root of the onion so that it cooks evenly.
Brush with butter, sprinkle with spices, and bake at 175 °C for about 30 minutes, then another 10 until golden brown.

Benefits of Onions

White onions are rich in prebiotics, which support a healthy gut microbiome, so this light side dish will be relevant during the season of heavy feasts.
