British scientists have found a simple and safe remedy for combating chronic inflammation.

The combination of kefir enriched with live cultures and dietary fibers showed a more pronounced anti-inflammatory effect than the separate intake of omega-3 fatty acids or prebiotic supplements. This is stated in a study published in the Journal of Translational Medicine.

What the Study Showed

For six weeks, participants in the experiment took one of the proposed supplements:

omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids;
prebiotic fibers;
a combination of fermented kefir and fiber.

Significant improvements were observed exclusively in the group receiving kefir with fiber.

Interestingly, when taken separately, kefir and fiber did not show significant results.

Doctors refer to inflammation as the "hidden background" of many diseases—from diabetes and hypertension to arthritis and dementia. When inflammation becomes chronic, the immune system works continuously, damaging its own tissues.

This occurs for various reasons:

due to poor nutrition;

due to lack of sleep;
due to a sedentary lifestyle.

According to specialists, the synbiotic approach—combining probiotics (live bacteria) and prebiotics (nutritional fibers for those bacteria)—has every chance of becoming a new means of preventing inflammatory cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.
