Scientists have discovered which tea potentially protects against dementia and diabetes

Taiwanese scientists presented the results of a study in which they proved: oolong extract slows down inflammatory processes at the cellular level.

According to an article published in the journal Nutrients, experts studied the effects of a substance from the leaves of oolong, a fermented Chinese tea, on the molecular mechanisms of inflammation. It turned out that they reduce the activity of a protein complex involved in the development of chronic diseases, ranging from diabetes to neurodegenerative disorders.

During experiments, specialists noticed that oolong extract suppresses the formation of substances that trigger inflammation and reduces the amount of active oxygen compounds that destroy cells and accelerate aging processes.

Researchers believe that the secret lies in the high content of polyphenols and catechins in the drink. These natural antioxidants are so effective that they are compared to curcumin — one of the most studied and recognized natural anti-inflammatory agents.

The authors emphasize that this is still about preclinical trials. However, regular consumption of oolong may indeed have a protective effect on the body, similar to green tea, leafy vegetables, berries, and nuts.
