In the morning on Ieriku Street in Riga, a BMW car veered off the road and crashed into a tree. According to the car owner, who witnessed the incident, the cause of the accident could have been the powerful engine and loss of control over the vehicle.
The accident occurred on Tuesday around 7:42 in front of house No. 58 on Ieriku Street. The time is known exactly, as witnesses and the car owner immediately called emergency services.
According to the State Police, the BMW was heading towards Laimdota Street when, for no apparent external reason, it veered off the roadway and collided with a tree.
The driver was a girl. The car owner said that shortly before the accident, she had dropped him off, after which she continued her journey alone.
"She dropped me off, I got into a friend's car and went to work. She drove on. Apparently, on a straight stretch of road, she pressed the gas, the car skidded, and she lost control," the young man told the Degpunktā program (TV3).
According to him, it was a BMW with a three-liter diesel engine. Additionally, the car had a malfunctioning stabilization system due to issues with the ABS.
"From my friend's car, I saw her side-swiping into the tree and wrecking my car," recalls the BMW owner.
Emergency services arrived promptly at the scene. According to witnesses, the first crews were on site just a few minutes after the call.
Despite the serious damage to the vehicle, the accident resulted in no severe consequences for the people involved. The driver did not require medical assistance.
The State Police reported that an administrative offense process has been initiated regarding the accident. Police representative Lina Bagdone noted that the driver veered off the roadway without objective external reasons. As a result, the woman is likely to face an administrative fine.
Such accidents often occur with powerful cars when the driver overestimates their capabilities or fails to react to changes in the vehicle's behavior.
This time, the consequences were limited to a damaged vehicle; however, a collision with a tree on an urban street could have ended much more seriously.
