On Monday afternoon, a BMW car and a motorcycle collided in the Imanta neighborhood. The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision and was taken to the hospital.
At the pedestrian crossing, a pink mark indicates the spot where the BMW was located after the accident on Monday. The motorcycle ended up on the island between the lanes of traffic after the collision. Those who witnessed the aftermath of the accident are discussing how the collision occurred, reports the show Degpunktā (TV3).
“I think someone came out from here, from the direction of the store. Because there is one turn to 'Maxima' and another from 'Mega' onto this road. And, most likely, someone came out from that turn and possibly did not notice the motorcyclist, because now they are going at such speed that they are practically impossible to see. The motorcycle was already lying on the lawn. But since it ended up on the lawn, I think the impact was from the side, if it was thrown there,” said a man who saw the aftermath of the accident.
“We, my husband and I, just assumed that, most likely, the motorcycle was possibly braking, and the BMW just crashed into it. At least, that’s how it looked — both from the position of the motorcycle and how the BMW was standing. I think the BMW is to blame. Perhaps a pedestrian was crossing, the motorcycle slowed down, and she just didn’t have time to brake because that side is damaged. It is clear that she obviously crashed into him,” said eyewitness Victoria.
The damaged BMW is parked nearby the accident site. There is a parking permit on the window from the nearby building. It is possible that the BMW driver was coming out of the yard and did not notice the motorcyclist who was moving on the main road. Law enforcement officials have begun the process of an administrative offense and are determining which driver is at fault for the collision.
“We received a call to the scene at 17:25. One person was injured at the scene — the motorcyclist, who sustained polytrauma. He was taken to the hospital conscious and in stable condition,” said Miks Ducis, a representative of the Emergency Medical Service.
“This place is very unfavorable. There is a straight road here where people do not reduce speed. You need to be very careful,” noted a local resident.
Both drivers and pedestrians should be very cautious as the number of motorcyclists on the streets is increasing.
