Two More Human Smugglers Detained

On Tuesday and Wednesday, border guards detained two individuals in the Augšdaugava region for transporting 15 illegal migrants, reported the State Border Guard (SBG).

On Tuesday, while checking received information about the transportation of illegal migrants, law enforcement officers stopped a "Chrysler" vehicle in the Tabor region, driven by a citizen of Ukraine.

During the inspection of the vehicle, it was discovered that there were seven individuals of Asian descent inside without valid travel documents, valid visas, and residence permits, while another person was hiding in the gathering area of the group.

On Wednesday morning in the Skrudalien region, border guards stopped an "Audi" vehicle driven by a citizen of Latvia. During the inspection, seven individuals of Asian descent were found in the cabin and trunk of the vehicle without valid travel documents, valid visas, and residence permits.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the smugglers.

Fifteen individuals were returned to the border with Belarus.

The State Border Guard (SBG) urges residents of Latvia not to engage in illegal activities and reminds that severe penalties are provided for the transportation of illegal migrants - imprisonment for a term of two to ten years.

As reported, over the past weekend from April 30 to May 4, border guards detained four individuals for transporting 28 illegal migrants in the Augšdaugava and Krāslava regions.
