Police have launched an investigation following a stabbing in the Barnet area, which resulted in two people being injured.
On Wednesday, April 29, at 11:16 AM, police officers arrived at Highfield Avenue after reports of injuries. Local and armed police, as well as London Ambulance Service crews, were dispatched to the scene.
The suspect also attempted to attack police officers, after which he was subdued with a Taser and arrested. No police officers were injured.
Two men — one in his 70s and the other in his 30s — sustained stab wounds. They received assistance at the scene before being taken to the hospital. Their condition is described as stable.
A 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He is currently in custody. His nationality and personal details are being established.
The investigation is being conducted by specialists from the counter-terrorism unit in conjunction with the Metropolitan Police, examining all circumstances of the incident and any possible links to terrorism.
Head of the counter-terrorism unit, Lawrence Taylor, stated:
"I want to emphasize that the investigation is in its early stages, but we are working swiftly to understand exactly what happened. We thank everyone who was nearby and assisted in responding to this serious incident."
Chief Superintendent Detective Luke Williams, overseeing the area, added:
"Our thoughts are with the victims of this horrific attack. We are grateful to the officers who quickly deployed the Taser and arrested the suspect, preventing further harm.
We understand that this incident causes serious concern among residents, especially in light of other incidents in the area. The suspect is in custody, and the investigation is considering all possible motives."
The suspect remains in custody, and his motives are yet to be established. The investigation is exploring all avenues, including a possible terrorist motive. Police are increasing their presence in the area in an effort to reassure residents, but the incident has already caused significant concern in the community.
