In April last year, there was already a report of pansies being stolen from the auto parts store in Kengarags. At that time, two elderly women picked several flowers during the day, put them in a bag, and left unnoticed. Recently, on the anniversary of last year's theft, the flowers were again taken in an unknown direction.
A cyclist in Kengarags is likely experiencing 'spring in his head' — he stopped to admire the beautiful potted flowers on the terrace of an auto parts store. The smell and appearance apparently pleased him, as the cyclist made sure that both this flower pot and the long flower box next to it were completely cleared of plants, reports the Degpunktā program (TV3).
Sellers plant pansies outside every spring, and every spring, residents of Kengarags invariably steal them. Exactly a year ago, two elderly women did this — while one 'watched the perimeter' to ensure that no passersby noticed, the other approached and stuffed the flowers into a bag along with the soil. The last theft was described by a store representative as a more 'refined' crime, where the perpetrator was better prepared. The thief wore a hood, arrived on a bicycle, and the crime occurred at 4 a.m.
When discussing possible solutions, the store management notes that they will not stop planting potted flowers, despite them being stolen every spring. The losses are also quite insignificant and do not justify the effort of contacting law enforcement.
"We joked that we should connect them to electricity. If we connected them to electricity, maybe it would scare someone off. But legally — no, we shouldn't go to the police over flowers. We won't waste their time or our time," said the store representative.
Although the reason for the theft remains unclear, the representative noted that anyone interested should not hesitate — there’s no need to wear a hood or sneak up to the store entrance at night: several pots outside the store can be taken for free.
