An 86-year-old woman died in a devastating fire in Vainode.
Only part of the frame of the white private house remains — the rest was destroyed by fire. The fire occurred on the outskirts of Vainode, where several families live in dense housing. Residents of neighboring houses noticed heavy smoke in the two-story house in the morning, when their day began, reports the program Degpunktā (TV3).
Eyewitness Andis recounts that he saw smoke, then a window was blown out and flames appeared. He and others tried to get inside through the doors, but the smoke was too thick.
Firefighters worked at the scene for about seven hours. Four fire trucks and 15 firefighters-rescuers were involved. Unfortunately, the body of a woman was found.
An elderly woman lived in the house, who until now managed her household affairs independently. Neighbor Gene shares that they had a good relationship — help could be sought if needed. Just the day before, the family heard the pensioner doing chores in the wood shed. She notes that there was a heater on the second floor where the woman usually slept. Therefore, the neighbor suggests that the fire could have started due to an electrical malfunction.
Whether it will be confirmed that the fire started due to an electrical device will be determined by law enforcement agencies; however, at this time there are no suspicions of arson. Examinations have also been appointed to establish the cause of the woman's death.
