Green Light for Spending Money: Riga to Install Traffic Lights for 3 Million Euros – Where Exactly?

Riga plans to equip 13 intersections with traffic lights and to lay 11 new pedestrian crossings with additional lighting, bb.lv was informed by the Riga City Council.

A total of 3,044,825 euros is planned to be allocated for these purposes.

Construction and reconstruction of traffic lights are planned on Duntes Street near house No. 8, at the intersection of Dzelzavas and Kaivas Streets, on Lachplesha Street at Rusina Street, on Lachplesha Street at Abrenes Street, on Gustav Zemgala Avenue at Vairoga Street, on Juglas Street between Udelu and Bikernieku Streets, on Melnsila Street near house No. 21, at the intersection of Pernavas and Varna Streets, at the intersection of Bikernieku and Burtnieku Streets, at the intersection of Kalpaka Boulevard and Ukrainian Independence Street, on Eksporta Street, on Muitass Street and on the November 11th waterfront, on Karlis Ulmanis Avenue and Vienibas Street, as well as at the intersection of Gimnastikas, Vainodes, and Tadaiku Streets.

New pedestrian crossings with LED lighting are planned to be created near schools, clinics, hospitals, and other places with heavy traffic.

They are planned to be equipped at the following addresses: Liepajas Street, 40; Zveiniekus Street, 12; Unijas Street, 93; intersection of Valdaku and Irbenes Streets; Juglas Street, 2; Sesku Street, 72; Chiekurkalns, 1st Line; Ludzas Street; Vestiens Street, 35, building 5; Grivas Street, 26; Tvaika Street, 4.

Construction work on both projects is scheduled for the 2026 construction season.
