In an usually quiet apartment in Iecava, screams of a woman and sounds of blows were heard one evening.
Residents of the building were greatly surprised when the next morning they saw that a 42-year-old woman had fallen from the window of the same apartment. Currently, law enforcement has detained one person, which suggests that the fall was not an accident, reports the Degpunktā program (TV3).
Recalling what they saw, residents of Sporta Street in Iecava are reluctant to share their feelings. Under the windows of a nine-story building, opposite a playground, one of the city’s residents died. The events took place in the morning, so both adults and children were already around.
"When I approached, I asked: what happened? I was told that a woman fell from the 7th floor. I look out of my windows: what’s there? I don’t see, she’s already behind the bushes. (DP: Was she already in the green zone?) Yes, yes — in the green zone. I already saw that she was covered with a blue bag. Horrible, right!" — said a resident of the building.
"Upon arriving at the scene, it was established that this was a woman born in 1984, who unfortunately died at the scene from her injuries. The State Police have initiated a criminal process regarding the incident, and one person has been detained," — reported State Police representative Ruta Strauhtniece.
Although it was usually calm and quiet in the apartment from which the woman fell, neighbors noticed atypical activity the day before the tragedy.
"We heard the night before that a woman was screaming, a man was hitting something, and a dog was barking. We walked around the floors trying to figure out where the sounds were coming from, but we couldn’t," — noted a neighbor.
As a resident of the building explained, the woman did not usually live in this apartment — it belongs to her partner. However, those around noticed that the woman had been having problems with excessive alcohol consumption lately.
"Maybe she came to her mother’s. Last year I saw them together more often, but this year — not at all. I was walking and saw — he was walking down the street saying: ‘Oh, oh, oh — how did this happen…’" — recounted a neighbor.
Currently, law enforcement still has to investigate what happened. A criminal case has been initiated for intentional infliction of serious bodily harm resulting in the victim's death due to negligence.
