During the past four Easter weekends, the police detained 55 drivers of cars and motorcycles under the influence of alcohol on the roads of Latvia, which is 11 more than last Easter, according to summarized information from the State Police provided by the LETA agency.
According to the archive of the LETA agency, during the Easter weekend in the second half of April 2025, 44 drunk drivers were detained on the roads of Latvia.
This year, on Good Friday, 16 drunk drivers were caught, on Holy Saturday — 13, on the first day of Easter — 20, and on the second day of Easter — six. Each day also recorded one driver under the influence of narcotic substances, police data shows.
On the last holiday day, 49 traffic accidents were registered in the country, four of which resulted in injuries to four people, including a cyclist injured in the Riga region.
For speeding on Monday, 262 drivers were held accountable, and one case of aggressive driving was also recorded, police statistics indicate.
