In Latvia, arsonists of dry grass continued to operate over the past day, the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) reported to the LETA agency.

A total of 67 dry grass fires were extinguished on Friday.

The largest of these were in the Ceres municipality of Tukums region, where dry grass burned over an area of 65 hectares, as well as in the Medumi municipality of Augšdaugava region — there, the fire covered ten hectares.

A high-risk fire was extinguished in Jekabpils on Jekaba Street, where dry grass burned over an area of one and a half hectares, and piles of waste burned over an area of 100 square meters.

The State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) reminds that burning dry grass is prohibited and dangerous, as it threatens property, health, and lives of people, and also causes significant harm to nature. The service urges residents to tidy up areas without burning grass, and in case of a fire, to immediately call 112.
