Three Drowned Bodies Retrieved from Water Bodies in the Past 24 Hours

In the past 24 hours, three deceased individuals have been retrieved from water bodies, the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) reported to the LETA agency.

In two cases in Riga — from a pond and the Daugava River — the bodies of the deceased were retrieved and handed over to the State Police.

Another deceased individual was retrieved from a lake in the Kraslava region and also handed over to the police.

Additionally, on Thursday at 14:30, a call was received in the Maltina parish of the Rezekne region, where an apartment measuring 30 square meters was on fire in a single-story residential building. Before the arrival of the Emergency Medical Service, two people evacuated from the building, one of whom was injured and was handed over to the medical staff of the Emergency Medical Service. The work at the scene was completed at 15:20.

In the past 24 hours, 36 fires of dry grass were extinguished, the largest of which occurred in the Kalkuni parish of the Augsdaugava region, where dry grass burned over an area of nine hectares.

At 16:03, a call was received in the Stopini parish of the Ropaži region, where dry grass was burning in two separate locations — covering an area of two hectares and 7,500 square meters. The work to extinguish this high-risk fire was completed at 19:19.

The Emergency Medical Service reminds that burning dry grass is prohibited and dangerous, as it threatens property, health, and lives, and also causes significant harm to nature. The service urges residents to tidy up areas without burning grass and to immediately call 112 in case of a fire.

In the past 24 hours, from 6:30 on April 2 to 6:30 on April 3, the Emergency Medical Service received 105 calls — 60 for fire extinguishing (including 36 dry grass fires and four forest fires), 27 for rescue operations, and 18 calls turned out to be false.
