What happened? Armed special unit fighters took two people out of a house in Ilguciems

Members of the State Police Special Tasks Battalion, breaking down the door, and two people under the escort of law enforcement heading to a minibus — such scenes were witnessed by the residents of Ilguciems, under whose windows drug dealers were detained.

Residents of Baltu Street recorded that one of the five-story buildings was surrounded by police cars, reports the Degpunktā program (TV3). Several objects are marked on the lawn with numbered signs. Among the items that were presumably thrown out of the fifth-floor apartment in panic, a homemade smoking device and packaging, which presumably contained drugs, are visible.

"I only saw how they broke down the door, and that’s it. (DP: Do you know why?) A guy lived there with a girl. When I returned from work, they were on the fourth floor — three women, three guys. Apparently, they were waiting because they had a folder with documents. Then the police arrived. I hear noise. They broke down the door — and that’s it. Then the police left, well, there was a special unit in uniform. And that’s it, the women stayed here," a neighbor said.

At the scene, the situation was taken under control by the State Police Special Tasks Battalion. The officers were armed with shields in case any of the detainees decided to behave aggressively.

"The State Police detained two people in connection with the illegal trafficking of narcotic substances. Various substances were seized, which are subject to examinations to determine their composition and quantity," explained State Police representative Gita Grjibovska.

Residents of the building confirm that at least one of the detainees lived at this address. The incident came as a surprise to them, as nothing previously indicated a possible connection to drugs.

"The guy is normal — when there were elections, meetings here, he would come. I didn’t notice anything unusual about him. (DP: How long was the police there?) No, they were literally there for 15 minutes. Then they took them away, they arrived in a minibus, they gathered. They got into the bus, the women stayed, I don’t know what they were checking, looking for," noted a neighbor.

During the investigation, the police will determine the purpose for which the substances were stored — for sale or personal use, which will further determine the fate of both detainees.
