In Imanta, locals are not thrilled about the bohemian aura of one resident

On Wednesday afternoon in Riga, in Imanta, neighbors noticed that something was wrong in one of the apartments in the building.

While the owner of the residence was not home, household items caught fire in one of the rooms. The quick reaction of the neighbors saved both the apartment and the wooden house from serious damage, reports the show Degpunktā (TV3).

When candles are lit in the evening, it seems that spotlights are shining in the apartment — this is how a neighbor describes the lighting in the man’s residence where the fire occurred. Other residents noticed smoke in the stairwell and immediately called the firefighters.

"We have this neighbor… Some kind of artist — not an artist… He constantly has candles burning in his apartment. Day and night. And look at what was thrown out of his apartment — all of this was lying on the floor," says the neighbor of the owner of the burned apartment.

The neighbor shows the broken window of the apartment, which he noticed on Wednesday morning. This, of course, attracted the attention of the residents. A few hours later, rescuers were already working in the yard. Now several window panes are missing from the apartment.

When asked if the owner of the apartment was home at that moment, the neighbor answers negatively.

"He has a 100 square meter apartment. There are always some parties happening there… They walk around there in the morning… Their window was broken. Apparently, the doors were closed, and they climbed inside through the window… I don’t know. He is a person who is hard to contact. (DP: Young or old?) Not young. (DP: Middle-aged?) Some bohemian, artist."

As a result of the fire, one of the rooms in the apartment, measuring five square meters, was burned out. Whether the cause was an unattended burning candle flame is yet to be determined. It is only known that the fire did not occur due to a short circuit or the heating system.
