In the past 24 hours, a traffic accident with a fatality has been registered in Jelgava — the driver of the minibus was killed, according to summarized information from the State Police, reports LETA.
The accident occurred on Rigas Street, where the driver of a "Mercedes Benz Vito" was killed. The police are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
In videos published by witnesses, it can be seen that the minibus overturned on its side on the sidewalk.
According to the State Fire and Rescue Service, hydraulic tools were used to extract the deceased from the vehicle. Rescuers also disconnected the battery terminals and cleared the roadway.
A total of 92 traffic accidents have been registered in the country, five of which involved injuries. Three people were injured in these accidents, including one pedestrian and one cyclist. One injured person was recorded in the Zemgale, Kurzeme, and Latgale regions, while in the Riga region, despite two accidents with injuries, no injuries were reported.
Four drivers were detained for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, and in all cases, criminal liability was applied. Another driver was under the influence of narcotic substances.
A total of 182 administrative protocols were issued across the country for exceeding the permitted speed, and 460 drivers were penalized for various traffic violations, according to police statistics.
