On Monday evening, Riga Municipal Police officers noticed on cameras at the Stone Bridge that a woman jumped into the Daugava.
Rescuers searched for the person for two hours, but the onset of nighttime darkness and strong currents required them to halt operations, reports the Degpunktā program (TV3).
The search continued on Tuesday. Using a boat and special equipment, rescuers attempted to locate the drowned woman at the bottom of the river.
"The area is being checked using a motorboat and sonar to determine the possible location of the person," noted GPSS representative Endija Dalbinja.
