In the Pashilaichiai neighborhood of Vilnius, a man who entered the 'Artea' bank branch sprayed tear gas and stole documents.
A suspect is currently being sought. Police units are operating in neighboring areas.
"A report was received that a person entered the bank branch on Zemynos Street in Vilnius, sprayed gas, and possibly took a bank folder with documents. He fled the scene, and a search is underway; significant police forces are involved, and traffic on adjacent streets is closed," commented police representative Ramūnas Matonis to Radio LRT.
According to him, police are searching for the individual based on descriptions provided by witnesses, hoping that the suspect will be found and apprehended soon. Preliminary reports indicate that no one was injured during the incident.
The head of the Vilnius District Police Communication Department, Julija Samorokovskaja, also reported that a preliminary investigation has been initiated.
"Significant police forces have been dispatched to the scene, law enforcement officers are working, and neighboring streets are blocked," she noted. According to her, employees of the Fire and Rescue Department are also working at the scene.
Responsible bank specialists have also arrived at the scene and are cooperating with the police.
"We have security procedures for such cases. Client funds and data are secure," stated the head of the bank 'Artea', Saulius Jarmalis.
In the coming days, the 'Artea' branch on Zemynos Street in Vilnius will not be operational. In other bank branches, control and vigilance have been increased.
