Musician Normunds Rutulis, who was involved in a traffic accident while intoxicated over the weekend, commented on the incident on his Facebook page.
"Dear people! I have no words… I am ashamed! I want to sink into the ground. But it is clear that this is impossible. It is also a reminder to myself that just yesterday you are on the rise, and in just a moment, really in just a moment, you can find yourself in a deep pit.
With great regret, I acknowledge that my decision to get behind the wheel that evening while intoxicated is inexcusable. It happened… And it is my fault, and only my fault — both for not restraining myself from consuming alcohol and for getting behind the wheel in that state, endangering all of you.
I do not yet know what punishment will be assigned to me, but I do know that I would like to use this story of mine as a bad example from which a lesson can be learned. This is a situation that neither I nor anyone else should have found themselves in.
I understand that I have angered many. This anger is part of the punishment, and I accept it. I apologize to everyone who was disappointed in me because of this incident! I will no longer be giving comments, as I need time to reflect on the situation in which I, my family, friends, and colleagues have found ourselves."
Let us remind you that on Saturday evening, a traffic accident occurred in the center of Riga, in which the driver was behind the wheel with a high level of alcohol in their blood. It soon became known that the accident involved a well-known Latvian musician.
