The U.S. has ordered all embassies worldwide, including in Latvia, to urgently review security measures following hundreds of attacks on American facilities, reports the Washington Post.

The State Department has ordered all American diplomatic missions around the world to "immediately" assess the security situation, citing the "ongoing and evolving situation in the Middle East and potential consequences," according to a telegram sent on Tuesday.

The telegram stated that "ALL missions worldwide" must convene emergency committees (ECCs) – interdisciplinary groups tasked with identifying threats and planning actions in case they arise, as well as reviewing their "security."

The telegram was signed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and it indicated that the directive came from Deputy Secretary for Management Jason Evans.

According to one of the telegrams sent on Monday, it is estimated that since February 28, Iranian militia groups have carried out 292 attacks on American facilities, describing "persistent" threats to American personnel in the region. The same telegram noted that in some cases armed groups have entered people's homes to gather information about U.S. citizens.

In another incident that occurred over the weekend, a "intercepted, unexploded Iranian ballistic warhead" struck an apartment building where American diplomats reside in Israel, according to a separate telegram reviewed by WP. There are no reports of injuries, but the telegram emphasizes the importance of seeking shelter when alarms go off.
