The Health Inspection will check the actions of the doctors at Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital who discharged a woman with a bullet in her back, reports Latvian Television.

According to the victim herself, she was shot by an unknown gunman in the Riga district of Vakarbuļi. The police are still searching for the attacker. A two-centimeter bullet was extracted a week later at the Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital (Gaiļezers). Prior to that, the woman had visited Stradiņš Hospital, where she was not operated on as the medical staff assessed the situation as not life-threatening and recommended recovery under the supervision of a family doctor.

The medical director of the Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital, Juris Nikolajenko, noted that the patient's condition was not acute. However, due to pain, it was decided to extract the bullet, he explained.

Representatives of Stradiņš Hospital still believe that they acted according to the situation, and perhaps the only issue was insufficient communication with the patient.

The State Police are also not sitting idly by – a criminal case has been opened regarding the shooting under the article on hooliganism. The victim will undergo a forensic medical examination to determine the severity of her injuries. Law enforcement agencies are urging residents who may have useful information about this case to come forward.
