In the past 24 hours, 13 people, as well as a rabbit and a dog, were rescued from fires, the State Fire and Rescue Service (GPRS) reported to the LETA agency.

A fire occurred on Monday in a five-story residential building on Sitasa Street in Riga. Household items were burning on the fourth floor of the building, covering an area of ten square meters, and there was heavy smoke in the stairwell. Firefighters rescued five people from the building, four of whom were injured. Another ten people were evacuated, and five more evacuated themselves before the rescuers arrived.

Meanwhile, on Dobeles Street in Jelgava, household items were burning in an apartment on the first floor of a two-story apartment building, covering an area of 40 square meters. Using rescue masks, firefighters led two people out of the smoke-filled premises via the stairs, and another person from the second floor was rescued through a window using a ladder. Five more people evacuated themselves before the State Fire and Rescue Service (GPRS) arrived. A dog and a rabbit were also rescued from the house.

That night, the GPRS received a call to a two-story residential building on Grants Street in Riga, where household items were burning in the basement, covering an area of 15 square meters, and there was heavy smoke. Using rescue masks, five people were rescued from the second floor, while seven people evacuated themselves.

Firefighters also responded to calls where an abandoned building, a car, soot in a chimney, garbage, an outbuilding, a garden house, and unattended food were on fire. In total, the service received 58 calls.
