In the last three days, 55 fires of last year's grass have been extinguished in Latvia, one of which resulted in an injury, reports the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS).
On Saturday, shortly before midnight, a call was received in the Kekava municipality, where grass was burning over an area of one hectare. There was one injured in this fire.
Grass was also burning in the Kukas municipality of the Jekabpils region over an area of 5,000 square meters. Due to strong winds, sparks ignited a shed, which caught fire, but firefighters quickly extinguished the flames and protected the building. Boards on the burning clearing also burned.
In recent days, three forest fires have been extinguished. The largest of these occurred on Saturday in the Kekava region, where 2,400 square meters of underbrush was burning. The fire was extinguished in less than two hours.
On Sunday, rescuers were dispatched to the Varkava municipality of the Preili region, where a one-story residential house measuring 92 square meters was on fire. Before the arrival of the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), a person who was injured evacuated from the house and was handed over to medical personnel.
Also on Sunday, the SFRS received a call to Saulcerites Street in Riga, where the second floor and roof of a two-story residential building were burning over an area of 200 square meters. Before the arrival of the SFRS, a person who was injured as a result of the incident evacuated from the building.
