During a search in one of the apartments in Riga, the State Police seized approximately 11 kg of cocaine and 3 kg of marijuana; however, the court initially refused to impose detention on the arrested individuals, the State Police reported to the LETA agency.
This is the largest batch of cocaine seized by the State Police since 2019.
During operational work to combat drug addiction, the police tracked down individuals involved in drug trafficking in the Riga region. Their main activity was related to the distribution of cocaine.
On March 8, law enforcement detained two men born in 2000 and 2002. They had not previously come to the attention of the police.
During a search at the residence of the man born in 2002, approximately 11 kg of cocaine and 3 kg of marijuana were found. In the apartment of the second suspect, another 10 g of cocaine was seized, and during a personal check, an additional 20 g of marijuana was discovered.
The value of the seized substances on the illegal market is estimated at around 1 million euros.
For such a crime, the law prescribes imprisonment for a term of 5 to 15 years with or without confiscation of property.
On March 10, the police proposed to apply detention as a preventive measure against the suspects. Evaluating the circumstances, the court refused to impose arrest, therefore measures not related to deprivation of liberty were applied to the suspects.
