Last week, fraudsters managed to swindle 302,366 euros from residents of Latvia, the State Police reported to the LETA agency.
From March 9 to 15, the State Police registered 122 cases of fraud. In 45 cases, the population suffered financial losses, while in 77 cases, the fraudsters' attempts were unsuccessful. The total amount of stolen funds reaches at least 302,366 euros.
The largest sums were lost by residents as a result of telephone fraud, where the perpetrators posed as representatives of various institutions and enterprises - employees of credit organizations, utility service providers, mobile operators, as well as the State Social Insurance Agency.
In this manner, residents were deceived out of at least 184,829 euros, with the highest number of such crimes recorded in the Riga region - 103.
