On Thursday in Salaspils, an elderly man crashed his car into the back of a truck.
Possibly in shock after a severe impact, the driver left for his nearby home instead of calling the police and medics. Ultimately, he was taken to the hospital, reports the show Degpunktā (TV3).
On Gaismas Street, an "Opel" car crashed into the back of a truck parked by the roadside. Fortunately, the passenger seat was empty, as the strongest impact was on the right side of the car — it was completely crumpled.
Shortly after the collision, local residents passed by the accident scene. They report that the truck often stands on this street, and a person unfamiliar with the area might not notice it. They were unable to talk to the driver about what happened because he simply left:
"The driver was not there, there was another woman who said that the driver just got out and went home. You can see traces of blood there, there’s a straight path — he walked about 800 meters, it turned out, to his home."
Law enforcement confirms that the driver went home, and from there, medics took him to the hospital.
"I only saw that when they took him away, he was being carried on a stretcher, his head was already bandaged," says a local resident.
Medics assessed the man's condition as stable; however, the injuries were serious enough that a decision was made to conduct further examinations.
To deal with the damaged car, a relative of the injured driver arrived at the scene. He told Degpunktā that the driver is 80 years old:
"The truck is hard to notice even when you drive here every day. The road was wet — I don’t know if he didn’t see it or what… He has nothing broken, just blood was coming from his nose. But he was taken to the hospital for examination."
