On the night of Friday, a tragic fire occurred in Ikšķile, Ogre Municipality. Rescuers carried the resident out of the burning private house. Medics confirmed the death.
The fire-damaged house will likely serve as a reminder of the most tragic night in the family's life for a long time, reports the Degpunktā program (TV3). Especially since the relatives of the deceased man live in the house across the street.
Degpunktā managed to briefly speak with the mother of the deceased, who can only speculate about what happened in the late evening hours that led to the death of her 28-year-old son.
"It caught fire, possibly the stove was overheated. He was tired, fell asleep, and died from carbon monoxide poisoning. The dog also perished. They both slept next to each other," the woman says.
Other residents of Sporta Street did not wake up during the night. For example, neighbor Baiba learned about the incident from Degpunktā: "A completely normal young man. It seems he was a mechanic. He always drove a car, very polite."
The young man lived alone in the house. Rescuers emphasize that if the premises had been equipped with a smoke detector, the sound alarm could have saved both his life and that of his four-legged pet. The fire, covering an area of 70 square meters with open flames, was quite complex, with work continuing for more than four hours, and the services were also responsible for protecting nearby houses.
In addition to the mother's version about the overheated stove, there is also a theory about a possible short circuit. Investigators will clarify the circumstances to provide clarity for the relatives.
