Investigating the Causes of the Collapse of Latvia's Government Portals: Suspicion of Russia Has Been Lifted

On Tuesday, due to technical malfunctions in the afternoon, there were disruptions in the operation of many government and municipal institution websites in the Republic of Latvia. They were either unavailable or functioning with interruptions and delays.

There were disruptions, for example, in the operation of the portal "Latvija.lv", the Cabinet of Ministers website "mk.gov.lv", as well as the websites of ministries, municipalities, and other government institutions.

This was reported by the state joint-stock company "Latvijas Valsts radio un televīzijas centrs" (LVRTC), which is responsible for local internet.

The organization responsible for cybersecurity, "Cert.lv", stated that the access interruptions to government portals were not related to external influences. The problems were also not linked to a cyberattack.

The disruptions on Tuesday appeared to be related to technical issues identified on the LVRTC side in the data transmission network.

In the evening after 7:00 PM, "Cert.lv" reported that the issues with the firewall had been resolved and its operation had been fully restored. Users are advised to reactivate the DNS firewall.

The DNS firewall prevents an average of over 200,000 attempts per month by users to access malicious links.
