Riga Mayor and Other Local Government Leaders in Latvia Advised Against Traveling to Russia and Belarus

Today, during a meeting with local government leaders, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) reminded about the dangers of traveling to Russia and Belarus, the MFA reported.

Representatives of the ministry have once again urged against traveling to Russia and Belarus, as such trips are dangerous for travelers, including due to the limited ability of diplomatic services to assist citizens who find themselves in difficult situations in these countries.

Previously, the State Security Service also urged local government leaders not to travel to aggressor countries, as there are, among other things, high risks of recruitment.

During discussions, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the economy and security are closely linked. Without a secure environment, stable economic development cannot be ensured.

The ministry will continue to actively work on strengthening economic activity in priority markets, while opening new opportunities for entrepreneurs to collaborate in remote markets.

In addition, Foreign Minister Baiba Braže stated that the presence of allies in Latvia and the Baltic region is an important element of deterrence and protection for the overall security of Latvia, Europe, and NATO.

She noted that efforts to increase foreign troops in Latvia will continue.
