NATO fighters on air policing missions in the Baltic states scrambled three times last week to identify and escort Russian aircraft, the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense reported on Tuesday.
On February 9, NATO fighters were scrambled to identify a Russian reconnaissance aircraft Il-20, and on February 13 and 14, to escort a Russian reconnaissance aircraft Su-24MR and a fighter jet Su-33.
In all cases, the Russian aircraft flew with their radar transponders turned off and without flight plans, but maintained radio contact with the Regional Air Operations Center.
The NATO air policing mission in the Baltic states is carried out from airfields in Lithuania and Estonia.
