On the night of Sunday, February 15, the State Police received a call to an apartment in Riga, in Grizinkalns, regarding the death of a man. When medics and officers from the Riga Regional Department of the State Police, Eastern Riga Division, arrived at the scene, the man's death was unfortunately confirmed. The deceased had a stab wound.
At the scene, law enforcement detained a woman born in 1979 — the wife of the deceased, who had no prior convictions.
According to available information, the crime was committed during a joint alcohol consumption when a domestic conflict arose between the two individuals.
In connection with the incident, a criminal process has been initiated under Article 116 of the Criminal Law — for murder. For such a crime, the law provides for life imprisonment or imprisonment for a term of five to twenty years with probation supervision for up to three years. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the 1st Department of the 1st Bureau of the Criminal Police of the Riga Regional Department of the State Police.
On February 16, a preventive measure was applied to the suspect woman — detention.
Currently, law enforcement continues to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
