Latvian Faces Sentence for Programming for Russian Firm

On February 2, the State Security Service (SSS) called for charges to be brought against a resident of Latvia for illegally providing programming services to a company located in Russia, reports LSM.lv. The SSS of Latvia indicated that providing these services constitutes a violation of the sanctions established by the European Union.

The criminal proceedings regarding the violation of EU sanctions were initiated by the State Security Service (SSS) on April 14 of last year.

During the investigation, it was established that since 2022, an individual had been remotely providing programming services to a company in Russia. Furthermore, for several months, this individual received a salary in an account at the Russian 'Alfa-Bank,' which is included in the EU sanctions lists, thereby, in violation of the ban, providing financial resources to a company under sanctions. However, it turns out that it was the client who was providing the programmer with finances by paying him a salary...

The SSS reminds that in response to the war unleashed by Russia in Ukraine, residents of EU member states are prohibited from providing programming services and many other services to companies in Russia. Additionally, residents of EU member states are prohibited from directly or indirectly providing financial resources and economic resources to individuals and legal entities included in the EU sanctions lists.
