In Riga on Gustav Zemgala Street on Wednesday, a passenger car was hit on both sides by two trucks, reports the Degpunktā program (TV3).
A warning sign about the blind spot is visible on each of the trucks involved in the accident, clarifies TV3. Being attentive and avoiding driving next to a truck whenever possible is certainly wise; however, in heavy traffic, such as on Gustav Zemgala Street, this is often impossible.
The driver of the DAF truck did not notice the passenger "Toyota" this time and pushed it into the oncoming lane under another truck:
"I didn’t even understand how it happened. I was changing to the right lane — a hit, and that’s it. I didn’t even see him. This side of my truck is intact. He says I hit him. The left side is damaged, it’s unclear. I passed the technical inspection. No one was hurt. I immediately asked if he needed an ambulance, he said he didn’t need one."
The driver of the "Toyota" also stated that now, despite the shock, it seems that his health is fine. He described the sequence of events to the State Police while waiting for the tow truck:
"Everything happened very quickly, maybe in about 12 seconds. Then there was confusion, and only later did I realize what exactly happened. My legs were shaking, I was in shock, those feelings lasted for several minutes. Then I gradually calmed down and started to think about what happened."
Traffic on Gustav Zemgala Street was significantly hindered for quite a long time; however, it was not completely blocked — one lane remained free in both directions at the collision site.
